On May 23, Kennedy was discovered by a friend at his house and was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Kennedy, who was 48 years old, was one of four Seahawks to have his number retired and one of four players to play their whole careers with the team to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Officially, the cause of death was listed as “congestive heart failure due to hypertensive heart disease with organizing pneumonia and diabetes mellitus as contributory causes,” according to the report.
