He played nine games for the province and scored three tries.

On October 24th, his funeral was held at the Te Wainui Marae in Gisborne. The police have confirmed that the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. and are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding it. At approximately 7:50 a.m., police were alerted to a report of a car crash with a tree.

Serious Crash Unit personnel responded to the scene, and inquiries into the incident’s origin remain active at this time. Wainui, formerly of the Crusaders, was signed by the Chiefs of Hamilton in 2018, playing in 44 games for the team in Super Rugby.
