Following the filming of Jordan Peele’s next horror-thriller Nope, Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya are getting to know one another even better.
While attending Essence Fest in New Orleans on Friday, the actress, who collaborated with McDonald’s on their Future 22 campaign, spoke to PEOPLE about her most recent film. She also assisted in awarding $10,000 grants to 22 different young community workers for their efforts.
Palmer declares, “I love Daniel; I’ve always wanted to collaborate with him. “It’s one thing to say, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m going to be in Jordan Peele’s movie, but it’s another thing to say, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m going to be in Jordan Peele’s movie that he’s doing again with Daniel!'” Before Kaluuya’s breakout performance in getting Out, according to Palmer, 28, she was a fan.
“I remarked that he is truly good after watching his Black Mirror episode. Performing acting, “Palmer reflects. Therefore, when Get Out debuted, I knew it would be fantastic because I thought, “They got the man from the Black Mirror episode!”
These days, the actors are buddies instead of just costars. “It was fantastic working with him. Funny thing is, when we were working, I picked up on part of his personality, but when he could utilize his accent, I really understood him “Of Daniel Kaluuya’s innate British accent, she says.
“Most of the time [on set] he was speaking with an American accent, and that does, unfortunately, dull a little bit of your personality because you’re virtually speaking in another language, but now that we’re hanging out and doing press together, it’s like, “Oh I get to truly see the way that you are.”
Palmer, a lifelong lover of horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, is beyond thrilled for audiences to watch Nope, which hits cinemas on July 22. “What Jordan said is true; it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before,” I said.
