Bleach, along with One Piece and Naruto, was one of the most popular anime and manga franchises of the 2000s and early 2010s. During its peak, the series inspired a slew of video games, toys, and other memorabilia, but its popularity faded in comparison to the other shonen titans, particularly with the anime adaptation.

Due to low ratings, Bleach’s anime was discontinued, while the manga lasted another four years. As the program returns for its real final season, the entire final arc, “1,000-Year Blood War,” will be adapted. Here’s a peek at where the Bleach anime left off and how it’ll end when it returns.

What Happened at The End of Bleach: The Anime

The conflict between Substitute Shinigami Ichigo and Kugo was completed in Bleach’s 366th episode. To eliminate the threat of Substitute Shinigami and the bad connotations brought to the job by Kugo, a group of full Shinigami planned to kill both Ichigo and Kugo at first. They shared their energies with Ichigo to assist him to end the fight once they realized what kind of person he was.

Ichigo’s efforts to truly reach out to and understand the isolated Kugo, rather than dismissing him as so many others had done, support their decision even more. Kugo rushes toward his opponent, still enraged that Ichigo is in his way, before being knocked out. Itsukushima tries to kill Ichigo and encourage the dying Kugo to keep fighting, but he becomes increasingly unstable as memories of his fallen buddy flood him.

After meeting with the Gotei 13 captains, Ichigo shocks them by requesting that Kugo’s remains be buried in the human world. His demand is divisive, yet it is a relief that he has decided to stay on as Substitute Shinigami instead of retiring. As the credits roll, Ichigo is greeted by several of his other friends and family members, saying their farewell for the time being and reflecting on their friendship.

What We Know so Far About Bleach’s Final Arc

“Bleach” was and continues to be a popular introduction to anime and manga for newcomers, and despite the fact that the series ended, many fans still have fond memories of it. “Bleach,” written and illustrated by Tite Kubo, follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a kid with the ability to see spirits who becomes a Soul Reaper after Rukia Kuchiki transfers her powers to him.
